Underlay
Underlay is as important as the carpet itself. The golden rule
is invest in the best you can afford and here are some reasons why:
• Good quality underlay gives extra resilience to your carpet
and can extend the life of a carpet by 30%
• Underlay makes your carpet feel more luxurious
• Waffle type underlay increases airflow which assists the
operation of your vacuum cleaner.
• Underlay acts as a thermal insulator, reducing downward
heat loss by up to 50%.
• Underlay helps reduce noise transmission through wooden
floors.
• If you are replacing carpet that is more than 2 years old,
it is normal practice to replace the underlay.
• Old underlay is as worn as a tired old carpet
• Some carpets have a combined underlay. These are generally
less expensive and used for areas that experience occasional use
only.
• Remember ‘Foam Backs’ will require a suitable
interliner to stop foam foam sticking to the floor.
